Hobart Asphalting is an asphalt contractor based in Hobart, covering the greater south of Tasmania. Driveways, carparks, pothole repairs, trench reinstatements and footpaths, in-house crew, no subbies, same standard every job.
The story
Hobart Asphalting grew out of 20+ years of watching asphalt work done the wrong way. Base cut thin, hot mix laid cold, joins butted instead of lapped, driveways that crumbled inside five years when a properly built one should run twenty-five.
We do it differently. Strip the old surface back properly. Compact the road-base to spec. Set the drainage falls before anything goes down. Order the hot mix when we're ready for it, not the other way around. Roll it tight while it's still got heat in it.
Hobart's southern climate, the wet winters, the cold nights, the freeze-thaw pressure on elevated properties around kunanyi, makes base prep more important here than in most parts of Australia. We've done driveways in Sandy Bay, carparks in Glenorchy, trench reinstatements on the eastern shore and road patches from the city fringe to Kingston. The ground conditions vary; the standard doesn't.

What we won't do
- ✗Quote without coming to site. Every price starts with a free visit, there's no other honest way to do it.
- ✗Lay over a base we haven't checked ourselves. If it's failing underneath, an overlay just delays the problem.
- ✗Cold-mix patching. The failure rate makes it a waste of your money and our name.
- ✗Pour into wet or freezing conditions. Better to reschedule than put down mix that won't bond.
- ✗Take a large upfront deposit. Ten to twenty percent to hold your spot is standard, and that's what we work to.
